What is the PRHS ?
The Pilbara Railways Historical Society Inc was formed in 1976 by people within the local communities of Karratha and Dampier.  Its main aim is to preserve for future generations a small part of the rapidly developing heavy haul railway scene.

Over the intervening years since foundation, the Society has been very fortunate in acquiring locomotive exhibits from Hamersley Iron, Mt. Newman Mining, BHP, Goldsworthy, Cliffs Robe River , Dept. of Harbors and Lights and Wright Prospecting.

For 23 years, the Society was extremely fortunate in housing a famous English steam locomotive - 4079 Pendennis Castle, acquired by Sir Russell Madigan on the Society's behalf, when a steam locomotive could not be purchased within Australia.  The locomotive was handed over on the 19th April 2000, the Locomotive is now being loving restored by the Great Western Society in England.

The museum complex houses a miniature rail track to promote interest in railways through the children of the Pilbara.   An extensive HO class model railway is also available for members (old and young alike) wishing to try out their own locomotives and rollingstock.
